I passed my driving exam!!

13 June '09:

Today I had my driving exam. It was kinda funny actually the way it went.
I arrived at the Kepong tracks, and followed through the procedure to get my turn number, and I was number 7 *lucky 7 perhaps? lol XD*
When the exam finally began, we were all directed to a hut (pondok) to wait for our turn, which we go 10 at once. There are 10 cars parked in front of the slope test area.

The first 10 is directed to get ready in the car, so I got up and took car no. 7. I was so nervous, I went and open the passenger's side door XD
1 by 1 the participants tried for the slope and there are few who failed.
When it's finally my turn, I guess I was nervous again because I went up without waiting for the examiner to call for my turn. I went up then was told to go down again to wait for her signal.

So, I waited and I passed the slope with just 1 try =D and so did I on the side parking and 3 point turn. After getting back my test card, I passed it to the JPJ officer who then sat in the car with me to proceed with the on-the-road test.

I adjusted the mirrors, tested the signals, headlights, gear and viper, adjusted my seat but dunno why he marked I didn't check my side-mirrors when I did... maybe I didn't check the passenger side mirror.
I was nervous once again and drove about 1 feet or so without fastening my seatbelt, lol XD After I've fastened my seatbelt I proceed to the main road which I did well just at the last part.
Upon the junction which I would need to take a turn back to the driving tracks, I don't know why but I downed by gear from 3 to 2 and jerked the car... and my marks too...
All in all, I PASSED the freaking exam!!! Woooooo!!! Cheers!!!

Uncharted waters... or so to say

I'm currently developing a program that integrates with a computer's existing webcam and sound system to develop a motion detector.
I've successfully created a screenshot saving program, or also known as, Desk Watch.
It captures a computer's screen view at every interval which is defined, launched during startup, and password protected.

Now, I'm going more in-depth into video capture.
However, due to the large file which video capturing creates, I would think it's wise to integrate motion sensing into my program as it will then only capture videos if there are any movements. It's redundant to capture still environment anyway.

Once I'm done with this program, it will open new doors of opportunities for my career path and allowing me to not only limit my choice to the software development industry but as well as the mass media industry.

And hopefully one day, I could advance my video/motion capture programs to facial/expression recognition programs, and it would lead me to the security/defense industry. Lol, dreaming XD but it's possible. Cheers!!

Freelance Programming

I've been wanting to start on freelancing but I'm always so caught up with my life.
Since now I'm thinking about it, I thought "Hey, why not just post it up in my blog to start off".
So here I am, ready to code away!!
I'm an experienced C#.NET and VB.NET programmer.
I do websites too in plain old HTML or even in ASP.NET, although I must admit I'm not that proficient in web-development.

Just send me an email stating the:
- program's objective
- functionality
- and not forgetting, the due date.

and we'll discuss more from there.

Unknown Lifeform in North Carolina Sewers

Here’s how the unknown life form was discovered: A company called Malphrus Construction was contracted to inspect the sewer lines, which are actually part of a private system owned by York Properties in Raleigh North Carolina.

Malphrus workers were inspecting the nearly 50 year old system with a snake camera that allows them to get a closer look at the inside of the pipes. That’s when they noticed a moving brownish glob near a crack in the structure where roots had intruded. It seemed as though the unknown life form reacted to the light, which also gives off quite a bit of heat.

Most experts dispel the monster alien theory and offer a more rational explanation: the unknown sewer creature could actually be a clump of annelid or tubifex worms. Such worms normally live "in soil and sediment at the bottom and edges of polluted streams." Others have described them as a group of invertebrates called byrozoan.
Well, if it is so common, why is it such a hype now? Weird eh? or maybe... they are just trying to cover it up by telling the public that it's nothing new. Whatever it is, it doesn't look like worm or byrozoan to me.

There does seem to be a consensus that they are harmless, but Raleigh, North Carolina officials don’t seem too concerned because the so-called unknown life-form is in a private sewer system.

[ASP.NET] IIS Mapping & Fixes

For those of you programmers out there who are chucked to do ASP.NET programming despite the fact that your resume didn't state that you know ASP.NET, and is encountering a problem with ASP.NET. This entry might help you.

I've recently been assigned the company's ex-programmer's ASP.NET project as the programmer has left the company.

Until yesterday, if not mistaken after a Windows update, this problem started giving tons of headache.

If you have ever received an error message on a .NET application that simply stated "Server Application Unavailable" you might find this useful.

The Probable Cause:

Microsoft identified an issue with the MS03-32 Security Update for Internet Explorer security patch and ASP.NET 1.0/2.0 running on Windows XP. This patch can be installed manually or by obtaining recent critical updates from the Windows Update site.

The symptom of this issue is that after installing the patch on a Windows XP machine, all requests to ASP.NET applications running on the local IIS 5.1 web server result in an error message saying "Server Application Unavailable". Requests to remote web servers are unaffected.

This issue only impacts installations running ASP.NET 1.0/2.0 on Windows XP. It does not impact machines running Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003. It also does not impact machines running Windows XP with ASP.NET 1.1 installed.

Please note that this issue is not a security bug with ASP.NET. It does not open up or allow any malicious attacks against an ASP.NET application or server. Instead, it is purely a functional bug caused by the patch itself.

For my case, I'm running a Microsoft.NET Framework v2.0.50727 along with IIS 5.1.
I tried to "Start Debugging" my project yesterday and all I get was a "Server Application Unavailable" error code.

When I went to check my Event Viewer (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer) for the error log, I got this:

The Solution:

Download this batch file and run it. The steps:
1) You must be running as an account with Administrator privileges
2) Double click the fixup.cmd.
3) When prompted, enter 1pass@word as the password.
4) If you have previously custom access control settings or database account permissions for the ASPNET account, you'll need to re-apply these settings now.

If you are wondering what does the batch file does, it does the following:
ile does the following:
1) Stops the IIS and ASP.NET state services
2) Deletes and recreates the ASPNET account with a known temporary password
3) Uses the Windows runas command to launch an executable that creates an ASPNET user profile
4) Re-registers ASP.NET. This creates a new random password for the account and applies default ASP.NET access control settings for it
5) Restarts the IIS service

After running the batch file, run the Aspnet_regiis.exe utility:
1) Click Start, and then click Run.
2) In the Open text box, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
3) At the command prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:
%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\version\aspnet_regiis.exe -i
In this path, version represents the version number of the .NET Framework that you installed on your server. You must replace this placeholder with the actual version number when you type the command.

Reference: http://www.asp.net/learn/whitepapers/ms03-32-issue/

You can get the version number from your Microsoft.NET Framework directory. For Windows XP it should be located here: "C:\WINDOWS\microsoft.net\framework"

Your problem should be solved by now =) Hope it did helped you out. Cheers!!
